mcCr Committee

Story

LOUISE PLATTS (back row, second from right)
This is my way of giving back to the Monaro Community that is so generous in their support behind fighting for Cancer.  If Cooma didn't have an Oncology unit, I wouldn't have been able to give my best friend the support during her treatment at the Cooma Oncology Unit.
Thanks for your support.

LORRAINE BLENCOWE (front left)
I moved to Cooma with my husband Kerry in 1986, and raised 3 wonderful children in the beautiful community of Cooma.  I am also proud to be a member of such a worthy organisation as  mcCr and the production of the Calendar Girls.

PENNY LARRITT (back row, second from left)
I joined mcCr after my father died at 77 years young. I wanted to improve the lives of people with cancer in regional areas, and give them the quality of care that they deserve.

BEV CLARKE (front right)
I am proud to be part of such an amazing community and as a member of this incredible committee I have the opportunity to give back. I don't imagine there are too many of us who remain untouched by cancer in some way. I love that the money raised stays within our community, providing fantastic services and helping those who need it most! Thank you for your support.

CAROLYN ALLEN (middle row, right)

Otherwise known as Corny, I live on a property near Berridale with husband Jock and 3 teenage children. I joined the mcCr in 2001 having just moved to the Monaro, initially to get involved in a worthy community cause. I have since witnessed too many friends and family suffer through cancer and feel honoured to be involved with a fantastic group of women and the important work they do on the MCCR.

ANNE EGAN (middle row, centre)

I am not a local but moved here 28 years ago. I love being part of this community and part of that is being a member of mcCr.  The feeling that we are doing something that may help local people in a time of great stress and, often, economic stress is a good feeling.  Being part of a team of women whose aim is to offer assistance is very rewarding.

WENDY CHAPMAN (back row, first on left)

As a health care professional, and member of the Monaro community,  I frequently come into contact with people whose lives are affected by cancer, so when the opportunity to join mcCr arose, I was eager to become involved with such a dynamic, community oriented organization. I strongly believe in the concept of fundraising where everything stays local, benefitting our community. It is incredibly satisfying to see how the funds we raise assist the people of the Monaro, helping to ensure that our cancer services are second to none.

JILL MURDOCH (middle row, second from right)

I wanted to become member of mcCr as I see first hand how the fundraising helps our community. Being diagnosed with cancer not only impacts physically and emotionally, but financially as well. If our fundraising assists in relieving some stress then it is definitely worth semi- baring our breasts.

GABRIELLE MCFARLAND (middle row, second from left)

Moving to Cooma in 1987 with Allan has been a great experience. Being a part of an active community and volunteer organisation such as mcCr that assists others in their time of need is rural living at its best.

JULIE BARRON (back row, first on the right)

Those of you who know me well, know that “baring my boobs” isn’t something that comes naturally to me BUT if there was ever going to be a reason to do it, mcCr is that reason and if there was going to be a group of amazing ladies to do it with, it was these ladies !

Moving to the area in 1998, I was overwhelmed by how I was welcomed into the community, that’s the Monaro for you ! It will be a long time before I am considered a local but I am here to stay and giving back to the community is a high priority for me ! Happily married to my wonderful husband James (whom I met 3 months after moving here)  for almost 16 years, our family was made complete when our much loved son Will was born in 2006 – passionate about wool and breeding Merinos, ours is a busy, fulfilling, rural lifestyle and we wouldn’t have it any other way.  I am thankful every day for my life and the amazing people who are a part of it !

Being asked to join mcCr in 2014 was both an honour and a privilege, the only inspiration I need to give it my all, is knowing that not only are we helping beautiful people who are already suffering from Cancer but we are also helping raise vital funds for research into a cure for this horrendous disease.

We would love and appreciate your support of our latest fundraising project “Calendar Girls” and all that it entails -  Together we can make a difference !

Monaro Committee for Cancer Research Incorporated

The Monaro Committee for Cancer Research was formed in 1996 by the daughter of a young Monaro mother who after a 5 year struggle lost her battle with cancer. Since its inception the mcCr has supported cancer outreach services on Snowy Monaro. In 2007 after much lobbying, a local oncology service was introduced to the Cooma Hospital. Local support raised in excess of $100,000 towards this project and today we have a successful outreach oncology service. mcCr is a local voluntary group of dedicated women working towards further cancer support and services for the Snowy Monaro Region.Your support will enable mcCr to continue this assistance for cancer sufferers.
